Description
ACTION AND MECHANISM
- [LAXATIVE]. Combines an osmotic laxative effect from sodium citrate with a moisturizing effect from sodium lauryl sulfate. The effect appears within 5-15 minutes.
SPECIAL WARNINGS
- It is advisable to periodically monitor electrolyte levels in elderly, debilitated patients or those with pre-existing electrolyte disturbances.

PATIENT ADVICE
- This medication should not be used by patients with intestinal obstructions or those at risk of dehydration.
- If after 1 week of use, constipation does not improve, persists, or worsens, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication.- Situations in which gastrointestinal transit is difficult or impeded, such as [INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION] or [ILEUS]. Due to the laxative effects of this medication, the obstruction could be aggravated.- Pathologies in which increased intestinal peristalsis is dangerous, such as [APPENDICITIS] or [INTESTINAL PERFORATION]. The use of laxatives in these patients could aggravate the condition.
PREGNANCY
Its safety and efficacy have not been evaluated, so its use is not recommended.
INDICATIONS
- [CONSTIPATION]: Symptomatic and occasional relief of constipation and to facilitate bowel emptying when necessary.- To facilitate bowel evacuation in cases of hemorrhoids and anal fissures.- [GASTROINTESTINAL EMPTYING] prior to abdominal or pelvic surgical interventions, rectoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.
LACTATION
It is unknown whether this medication is excreted in milk, nor is its possible effects on the nursing infant. Its safety and efficacy have not been evaluated, so its use is not recommended.
CHILDREN
Its efficacy and safety have not been evaluated in children under 12 years of age, so its use is not recommended.
RULES FOR CORRECT ADMINISTRATION
The patient should lie on their left side with their legs folded across their chest. Place the cannula upright and press lightly so that its contents slightly moisten the end, making it easier to insert into the rectum. Once moistened, insert the cannula into the rectum, with the end pointing toward the navel, and press the cannula until it is completely empty. Then gently withdraw the cannula, continuing to press against its walls. The patient should maintain this position until they feel an urgent need to defecate. If resistance is encountered during application, it should be discontinued, as it could cause rectal damage.
POSOLOGY
DOSAGE:- Adults and children over 12 years, rectal: 1 microenema at the time chosen for defecation.
PRECAUTIONS
- Symptoms of appendicitis, such as patients suffering from [NAUSEA], [VOMITING] or [ABDOMINAL CRAMPS]. In patients suffering from these symptoms, it is recommended to rule out the presence of appendicitis, and if it is diagnosed, a laxative should not be used.- Attacks of [HEMORRHOIDS] or [RECTAL BLEEDING]. This medication may cause irritation of the rectal mucosa, so its use should be considered if the patient has damaged this mucosa.- Dependence. The use of laxatives for prolonged periods of time may lead to dependence of the body, so treatments lasting longer than one week are not recommended.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Adverse effects are generally mild and transient. The most common adverse reactions are: - Digestive. Occasionally, [PAIN WHEN DEFECATION], [ANAL ITCHING], and anal irritation may occur.
