ACTION AND MECHANISM- Combination of a centrally acting antitussive and an expectorant.SPECIAL WARNINGS- It is recommended to monitor the patient for signs of abuse.- The combination of dextromethorphan with antidepressants should be avoided, leaving at least 14 days of rest between the administration of both drugs.PATIENT ADVICE- It may cause drowsiness, so it is recommended to be cautious when driving, and not to combine it with drugs or other sedative substances such as alcohol.- The doctor should be notified of any change in the patient's behavior or mood.- The doctor should be notified if the patient is being treated with antidepressants.- If after a period of treatment of one week the cough continues or is accompanied by severe headache, fever or rash, it is advisable to consult a doctor.- It is advisable to drink plenty of water during treatment.CONTRAINDICATIONS- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication or [OPIOID ALLERGY].- Patients being treated with MAOI-type antidepressants (See Interactions). EFFECTS ON DRIVING This medicine may cause light sedation in certain patients, substantially affecting the ability to drive and/or operate machinery. Patients should avoid operating dangerous machinery, including cars, until they are reasonably certain that the pharmacological treatment does not adversely affect them. PREGNANCY Adequate and well-controlled trials have not been conducted in humans, so the use of this medicine is only accepted in the absence of safer therapeutic alternatives. INDICATIONS - [DRY COUGH]. Symptomatic treatment of unproductive cough, especially that of an irritative or nervous nature. INTERACTIONS - Antiarrhythmics. Some antiarrhythmics may increase the toxicity of dextromethorphan by inhibiting its metabolism. - MAOI. MAOIs may lead to serious and potentially fatal conditions when combined with dextromethorphan (excitement, hypertension). It is recommended not to administer products containing dextromethorphan until at least 14 days have passed since treatment with the antidepressant. BREASTFEEDING It is unknown whether the components of this medication are excreted in breast milk, and whether this could affect the newborn. It is recommended to stop breastfeeding or avoid administering this medication. CHILDREN The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been evaluated in children under six years of age, so its use is not recommended. In older children, extreme caution is recommended, as they may be more sensitive to adverse effects. RULES FOR CORRECT ADMINISTRATION The syrups can be taken directly or dissolved in another liquid. In case of a nighttime cough, it is advisable to administer this medicine before going to bed. It is recommended to drink plenty of water during treatment. DOSAGE DOSAGE: - Adults, oral: 5-10 ml / 4-6 hours. - Children, oral: * Children over 12 years: 5-10 ml / 4-6 hours. * Children between 6-12 years: 2.5-5 ml / 4-6 hours. * Children under 6 years: Safety and efficacy have not been evaluated, so its use is not recommended. PRECAUTIONS - [LIVER FAILURE]. Dextromethorphan accumulation may occur.- Persistent cough, or in the case of cough associated with smoking, [PULMONARY EMPHYSEMA], [ASTHMA], or in the case of [PRODUCTIVE COUGH]. Inhibition of the cough reflex could lead to pulmonary obstruction. Treatment should not exceed one week without medical prescription.- Dependence. Dextromethorphan has occasionally led to dependence, therefore patient monitoring is recommended.PRECAUTIONS RELATING TO EXCIPIENTS- This medicinal product contains sucrose. Patients with hereditary [FRUCTOSE INTOLERANCE], glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicinal product. ADVERSE REACTIONSThis medicinal product does not normally cause major adverse reactions. The following adverse reactions have been reported with dextromethorphan:- Digestive.
